What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a primary skin rash, also known as papules or maculopapules, which appear as light red and are covered with many silvery-white scales on the skin surface. After removing the scales, a translucent membrane is revealed, and upon peeling off the membrane, there are bleeding spots, which is known as Auspitz’s disease in professional terminology.

This rash can be as small as a pinpoint or as large as a patch. It occurs symmetrically on the extensor side of the limbs and is also seen on the scalp, lumbosacral region, and occasionally in the elbow fossa and groin. It can occur anywhere on the body and can cause varying degrees of itching.

The pathology of psoriasis is mainly characterized by significant incomplete keratinization, with Munro abscesses visible within or beneath the stratum corneum. The stratum spinosum thickens, and the epidermal protrusions extend downward and penetrate deep into the dermis.

  1. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can shrink dilated capillaries and improve their permeability, thereby reducing exudation and edema.
  2. By undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the oxygen partial pressure, and content within the skin tissue can be increased, promoting the formation of epithelial collagen fibers and the regeneration of capillaries, and accelerating the repair of skin damage.
  3. Immunosuppressive effect, which can effectively inhibit the production of antibodies, reduce cellular and humoral immune functions, and thus achieve the therapeutic effect of psoriasis.
